Control Gaming continues to gain territory in the world of online e-sports competition, as this past week Control CSS reached
CAL-Main playoffs with a more than respectable record of
12 wins 4 losses. This is no small accomplishment, and to comment on the season one of our General Managers,
Patrick "OldZz" Donnelly, has conducted a short interview with team captain,
Jacob "Bandit" Banit.
Patrick: Thanks for taking time out of your schedule for this interview Jake, hows it going.
Jacob: No problem, and its going great, yourself?
Patrick: I'm fine thanks, but lets get started. With the recent acquisition of Inimitable by Control Gaming, do you feel that the team as a whole has grown and if so, how?
Jacob: I feel we have learned how to contribute to a whole community rather than to just ourselves. We played to win for ourselves before, but that's all changed. Now when we win, we know we're contributing to our entire organization. I believe we accomplished this by surrounding ourselves with not only solid, dedicated players, but great guys.
Patrick: How would you describe this past season of Cal-Main? What were some of the steps the team took in preparing itself each week and how did you feel about the season's competition level as a whole?
Jacob: Staying focused throughout the entire season is always hard with a season as long as this. Fortunately we were able remain on track by adopting a multiple step process. Some of the approaches we took were to go over the map as a team and create strats that worked for our type of gameplay. We scrimmed with minimal strats, and then modified them to work better with the competition at hand. Our goal also was to get a solid 5 each week, which worked out well since we have about 7 dedicated players who are constantly working for the team. There have been some tough matches, but every one of our loses could have been winnable. Getting losses out of the way during the season is better than finding out how to lose in playoffs.
Patrick: That's a pretty smart philosophy. Now that Control has reached the playoffs, does the team have any specific approach to make sure things go smoothly?
Jacob: I guess our main strategy will be the same, but we will be much more urgent about things. This is what you play for, you play to win it all, and we're definitely here to win Cal-Main.
Patrick: Has involvement with other leagues such as CGS and CEVO conflicted with this past season's results? And if so, how do you manage to balance everything and maintain a successful team?
Jacob: It definitely effected things. As a team that is trying to do well in all leagues, you have to try to balance out the practice for each league, so that translates into practice cut short for both leagues. As a team, we decided to take CAL more seriously than CGS, primarily for the reason that CAL-Invite is on the horizon. Secondly we didn't have the starting 5 we wanted on the CGS roster. CAL is our main concern now with playoffs coming, and although CEVO-Main is just starting, it'll be on the back burner until playoffs are over.
Patrick: Alright Jake, thanks for your time. Best of luck to the team throughout the playoffs and CEVO-Main.
Jacob: Thanks, we won't disappoint. *Sings power rangers theme song*
With Control CSS geared up for playoffs, we turn our attention to Control TF2. Our Team Fortress 2 team is quickly becoming a force on the competitive scene, as they currently hold a record of 6-1 in the Atlantic division of CEVO-Amateur. With playoffs on the horizon and tough matches ahead, the team hopes they can hang on to their momentum and claim a top spot when the season concludes.
That does it for Week in Review, check back next week for more updates.
